The implication being he'll even gather wood to fuel said campfire. As it is, a simple fire spell would do the trick. Just as it did with a certain lettuce leave someone once waved in his face.
He's not bitter at all. No idea what you're talking about.
"Same. Started working on actually using the blades instead of just magic." After Leviathan, and how he had gotten blasted back in the fight prior to it. Seemed to be the right time. Though he groans at the idea.
"'Long as it keeps Clarus of my back, fine." He's been insufferable lately and it's annoying. Though he wonders just how bad it's gonna be now that...
He looks back to the flames with a sigh. Following Gladio did nothing to assuage his fears for them.
Ignis was convinced that only carrots and beans were off the menu. Lettuce was legit. As are tomatoes.
Noct has every right to be bitter though. It is completely justified.
Blades, huh? Usually, it is Gladio that trains with Noct when it comes to weapons and Ignis is more of a 'proper time and place to use magic' type of training. But Ignis has some doubts that Noct wants to be in Gladio's vicinity in next couple of weeks.
"It will. And after the run, you can always come over for breakfast."
Ignis, too, stares at the flames, a flood of memories just washing over him. Was it really over three months now since they camped? He's being sentimental, isn't he?
"Ah, here." Ignis picks up the jacket and puts it around Noct's shoulders. "Good as new."
To be fair, someone was taunting him with it. Otherwise that poor leaf wouldn't have been chargrilled.
But, Ignis is right to assume that. After the last few days, he really needs to steer clear for his own sanity. Gladio screwed up big time, but... he remembers how he felt when Gladio refused to let him grieve. He kind of wants to punch him in the teeth still, yet he refused to do the same thing Gladio did to him in his timeline.
"Sure," he replies, a wry smile crossing his lips. "Been a while since we camped like this, huh."
He looks up the moment Ignis drapes the jacket over his shoulders. "Thanks, Iggy."
Note- never try to joke around Noct with veggies. Or there won't be any dinner.
Ignis doesn't know the specifics of what happens in the future but... he can read Noct's face. Despite him being very good at being able to mask it with indifference, Ignis can see the hurt and anger mixed into one that goes beyond this reckless escapade.
"It really has been," Ignis sighs. And gives Noct a, hopefully comforting, rub on the back. "Nothing to thank me for."
Wow. Burn one piece of lettuce to get a guy you just met off your back for a few minutes and no one lets you live it down. How sad.
Hopefully Ignis will never have to learn all the details. Bad enough that he saw what he did (thanks Bahamut); he doesn't want to talk about it, either.
He stiffens slightly when Ignis' hand edges close to the scars, but relaxes the moment his hand goes up again. He'd apologize, say it's been a long few days and he's still a little on edge, but... even with his mask of indifference and boredom, Noctis has little doubt that he can see right through it.
He leans into him slightly, still so very tired. "Should go one more time before it gets too cold."
Considering they were brought here, their own timeline could've been affected in some way as well- another reason why Ignis might not learn about it. But that is something to think about later. And if Noct doesn't want to talk about it- it's completely fine.
Ignis made sure not to lower his hand past the middle of Noct's back for that exact reason. It remained on the upper back and when Noct decided to be his cat-self, Ignis just sighed affectionately and shifted so Noct can get more comfortable while he keeps his hand on Noct's back.
"Where would you like to go?" Somewhere where he can fish, obviously.
At this point, it's still anyone's guess. For all they know, so much could have happened differently because of their absence. And for Noctis, it's something he refuses to consider outside of the back of his mind. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to keep moving forward. Too many lives are at stake.
He relaxes just that little bit more once Ignis shifts. Those thoughts a distant hum in comparison to everything else. "Anywhere near the water, really." He's not picky right now. Too tired.
And considering all of them are taken from different times, perhaps a dozen different things could've happened. Sadly, none of them have a happy ending in Ignis' head and it makes him restless when he thinks about it.
But, seeing he can't do anything about it right now while stuck here, he's going to do what the asshole he's angry at right now once told him- enjoy the things here while you can.
And thinking about peaceful camping sounds really good. "Certainly," Ignis confirms with a small smile. He wants to ask him about fishing equipment but Noct sounds too sleepy. Maybe he should just let him doze off.
It's fine, Ignis. He may or may not have an entire cabinet of fishing gear back home and a couple spare rods and tacklebox he left in the trunk of the Regalia at all times. Even apprenticeship pays well so he had the funds to build up his collection again.

They are doomed to all the feesh.
...
Also Noctis might be asleep already. Whoops.
